protein powder RUINED my life

accurate self portrait

drumroll please......

this summer i have been working out again. most importantly i have been working out for the intention of BUILDING MUSCLE. which means i have the intention of eating COPIOUS amount of protein (not really i just aim for .7g per lb of bodyweight. there is no proof eating anything more than 1.2g per lb is effective.)

i shall contribute to the world by making, ahem,

drumroll please......

THE OFFICIAL PROTEIN POWDER RATING LIST

in my lengthly 12 week fitness journey, i have tried three whole protein powders. thats right. three.

sixstar elite series 100% whey protein plus triple chocolate

this was my first protein powder, and my second favorite of the three. its a little clumpy, thick, and has a bigger serving size than the others as it comes in a whopping half a cup. at 30 grams of protein its pretty good, HOWEVER this uses whey concentrate not whey isolate. meanning the carbs, fat, and most of the lactose wasnt isolated out. honestly i dont really care about that but its something to keep in mind if you need to watch your carbs, fat, or lactose. this powder tastes weird with water, but its nice with 8oz of milk.

open nature chocolate plant based protein powder

i hate this. the texture is so bad. it feels like sand. the flavor isn't bad, its like pea flavored chocolate and would be palatable in a better form factor. not worth the 21g of protein. i had this with milk and im honestly too scared to try it with water.

optimum nutrition gold standard 100% whey protein double rich chocolate

this is my favorite so far!! i think the thinner consistency compared to sixstar has to do with the smaller scoop serving size, the fact that its whey protein isolate, or both. its smooth. and tasty. it reminds me of milo. protein powder is genuinely just grown up milo or nesquick. my grandma even asked if protein powder is like milo. we love milo.

conclusion

i rank the powders as such:

  1. optimum nutrition
  2. sixstar
  3. open nature

working out is pretty cool. lifting heavy is awesome. i recommend you all to give it a try. i've gained some muscle, but since i did a really small cut (-4 lbs) its not very noticable. the strength gains are crazy though, and my posture fixed itself! now, cardio is a dilemma for another time...
